KidsMBA Information for Schools

Entrepreneurship drives prosperity
It disrupts monopolies, creates new jobs and finds innovative solutions to our most pressing problems.

Empower your students with entrepreneurial know-how.

In this rapidly changing world, entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly vital as traditional employment routes can no longer be relied upon.
Teaching entrepreneurship and business skills from an early age will introduce children to a world of opportunities. It will form the foundations of the skills required to generate value through enterprise, both commercial value and social impact.
KidsMBA is an exciting new programme which develops real-world business and entrepreneurial skills in children at age 14 - 17. Students gain confidence whilst developing a practical understanding of what running a business entails, sparking a desire to build on their knowledge by pursuing further business studies.
KidsMBA also fosters other skills and behaviours beyond learning about starting and growing a business. The course promotes the ability to stick at problems and proactively find creative solutions. It advocates self-reliance, confidence, taking responsibility, speaking clearly and effectively, working as a member of a team, critically assessing the value of information and sharing ideas in a persuasive and engaging manner.
Through project-based learning, children are motivated in their wider pursuits. With KidsMBA they are encouraged to relate their own entrepreneurial instincts to other activities they enjoy and care about. This entrepreneurial talent can then be nurtured and polished throughout a child’s school life.

As mindsets are easier to influence at a younger age, evidence suggests that entrepreneurship education can radically influence the type of entrepreneurship, producing high-growth enterprises.

The aim is to improve the quality of entrepreneurship not merely produce more entrepreneurs.

Children will learn the most important concepts in running a business.

KidsMBA does not shy away from introducing children to the key concepts in business, providing a solid foundation for financial literacy. Through fun games, talks and role-play, the programme opens up the concept of entrepreneurship, developing the life skills, know-how and aptitude required to run an enterprise. Children will cover the following themes across 16 modules:

  • Business Ideas and USP
  • Products and Services
  • Business Name and Logo (IP)
  • Copyright and Patents (IP)
  • Pricing
  • Marketing and Sales
  • Customer Service and Customer Loyalty
  • Business Structures
  • Business Finance

KidsMBA students will practice pitching their business ideas.

KidsMBA is an intensive course, but it can fit flexibly into your timetable or enrichment offer. Your school will be supported with a training video and resources showing the teacher how to set up and deliver KidsMBA. This includes a lesson plan for each module, handouts and game instructions.

Students will receive KidsMBA resources and on completion of the course, a personalised and numbered Certificate of Achievement.

Students will also compete in a 'Dragon's Den' (‘Shark Tank’) style event and the winner will receive the KidsMBA Star Performer certificate and trophy.

The psychological traits developed through KidsMBA, such as creativity, analytical thinking, persistence, and confidence have clear applications in other subjects and are invaluable life skills.

KidsMBA is a rigorous introduction to the world of business and enterprise.
KidsMBA was designed by Professor Mark Watson-Gandy.
Professor Watson-Gandy practices in insolvency, company, banking and private international law, and has been awarded“Corporate Insolvency Barrister of the Year”. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Westminster and taught on one of the world’s leading MBA programmes at Cass Business School. In the United Kingdom, 50% of new businesses don’t survive their first five years. Horrified to discover that so many of the businesses he saw failing did so not because they were based on a bad idea but because of basic mistakes, Professor Watson-Gandy was inspired to make a change. The KidsMBA course took 3 years to write with the input of a panel from a range of disciplines, from entrepreneurs to experts in law, education, banking, and accountancy.

KidsMBA is a global programme.

Like a university MBA programme, KidsMBA can connect students with their peers around the world who are undertaking the same KidsMBA learning experience.

The list of countries where KidsMBA is running is growing all the time. To date, KidsMBA has been run in countries including the United States, Rwanda, Colombia, Myanmar, Zambia, Trinidad, Guyana, China, Thailand, Mauritius and Nigeria.

Entrepreneurship education has traditionally taken place at universities, but there is strong evidence that earlier interventions can develop the non-cognitive skills that are key to entrepreneurial success.

The value-adding benefits of KidsMBA.

In this increasingly uncertain and volatile world, it will be the individuals with the skills to manage their finances, identify opportunities, and plan for the long term, who thrive.

The risk of creative destruction is also forcing employers to seek out people who think like entrepreneurs. Employers will pay a premium for individuals who are able to spot new opportunities and adapt to the challenges posed by technological disruption, from developing new goods and services to identifying new markets.

As more and more young people aspire to be entrepreneurs, it is important that we promote sustainable entrepreneurship.

Whilst some business failure is the inevitable result of market competition, we should try to reduce the number of businesses that fail due to lack of preparation, and also foster resilience to failure in  our young people, as well as healthy attitudes to success.

With KidsMBA, schools will add value and distinctiveness to their curriculum, enrich their student's learning and demonstrate commitment to preparing pupils for a potential future as an entrepreneur or business leader. Parents will value the benefits that the KidMBA programme offers their child. Students will have fun, grow in confidence, learn the principles of entrepreneurship and gain a foundation for successful business leadership.
